Unfortunately, new studies shown serious decline in number of existing bee spices in the city, and around it.

Then came brilliant initiative to transform 316 roofs of the city bus stops into unique “beekeeping stops”.

Roofs are now planted with grass and specific wild flowers, which attract bees and support pollination. Layer of soil and flowers on the roof  can easily collect rainwater. Moreover, it can keep dust particles and even enable natural cooling of the bus stops during summer months!

If your travel itinerary brings you to Utrecht, you shouldn’t  be upset when using beekeeping bus stops. Bees are not aggressive, and should be focused on colorful flowers, which are symbols of these genius urban bee facilities. This eco solution requires just a bit of maintenance, while for insects, butterflies and bees it becomes a perfect vegetation oasis.

Utrecht is the first city in the world to implement this superb idea.

More similar actions, and maybe we can save our planet….
